This or That?

This or That?

Play along with these quick mathematical and design-thinking exercises. Observe how each pair might be correlated.

Pair #1

Which type of problem would writing it on paper be most helpful: 29 x 12 or 3 x 12?

Which type of action would writing it on paper be most helpful: long-term or instant gratification?

Pair #2

Pick a sequence that you can recite what you see in full from memory: 73G62E4014AV or 5T7B.

Pick a space that you can recite what is visibly seen from memory: kitchen or bedroom.

Pair #3

Choose one of the two numbers that most appeals to you: 8,000 or 8.

Choose one of the two home goods options that most appeals to you: quantity or quality.

Did you notice any correlations? Each pair were three variations of your working memory processes. Math was a simple example for you to experience how design-thinking is similar. Although, the design scenarios drew upon your mental models of pleasure.

There are systems in your home that you created, and continue to create, as you buy things and stash them here and there. These resources shape various paths by stimulating action, feeling, and emotion. Your wanting and liking systems at home involve those behavior components.

You can shape any space to live in good health. A past note introduced the notion of living for your healthspan. Reducing distractions at home that suck up mental energy offer you traction towards optimal mental health. Resources that are meaningful to you are good for you.

A few tips to consider:

As a contextual source of mental replenishment, move furnishings so you face a window wherever you can (e.g. where you sit to eat, work, chill-out).

As a function to intellectually uplift, replace decor with objects that feel beautiful to you (e.g. a gift from your BFF, a rock from a memorable beach, your childhood blankie).

As a sense of control, organize belongings to reinforce who you are, and where you want to go (e.g. move-more shoes set desk-side, inspiring words on the wall, snack cabinet makeover.)
