It happened

Today I’m going to share a “motivation secret.”

Here’s a hint: Set your phone down as you read this note. Channel your thoughts to an important, or effective, activity that you need (or want) to accomplish. Think about it and tell yourself the “what” that you want to do.  Say it out loud right now:  I want to …

Now, clap your hands.

If you followed my directions and clapped, then you just experienced the secret! Action is like Draino for motivation. Any small action can help you move through “feeling stuck” by getting you started so you can sustain and succeed in health.  Easy actions might look like:

  • Move more by walking to your parked car (at home.)

  • Leave ¼ of your meal on the plate (ie, leftovers).

  • Eat well consistently by pitching ¼ of one eat-less food.

  • Writing on a sticky note and slapping it on the wall

  • Taking one deep breath several times a day

  • Covering up your clock to promote deeper sleep

  • Celebrate each task with a hand-clap or a “yuuuusss!”

Remember, this is about progress, not perfection. The more you act, the better you’ll feel because “it” happened. “It” is real evidence that feels satisfying, energizing, and inspiring so that you’re empowered to take the next actionable steps.

How might you dissect one action into smaller actions?

What length of time for that action is the least amount? Can you get it down to 3-seconds?

What distance of that action is nearly a laughable, miniscule distance?

What level of performance for that action is the lowest of the lowest levels possible?

What quantity involved in your action is the smallest fraction it can possibly be?
