Abstract as Strategy

The term "abstract" is versatile—it describes objects, is an object itself, and captures feelings. Abstraction empowers your competence with absolute forms and everyday functionality.

Derived from the Latin roots "ab" (from) and "trahere" (draw off), abstract signifies being separate from concrete existence. It's not actual but theoretical, involving the act of removal, summarization in written form, and a detached intellectual and affective view.

According to Pablo Picasso, "There is no abstract art. You must always start with something." Abstract ideas often find expression through action, whether heard or seen. In life, abstraction becomes a method for personalizing creative ideas.

To exercise abstraction, detach from from function—like separating walking from legs. Repeat the act of walking and quickly write down the images or words that come to mind. This abstraction exercise is one example to a means of ownership - defining actionable purpose in means you can absorb to spark new or different perspectives and thoughts.

In strategizing, apply this art + science formula by putting two seemingly disparate things together, such as the existential element of meditation with jazz. Explore like a scientist seeking to crack a hypothesis. You can blend meaningful - stimulating, pleasurable activities with experiences to draw out what will make routine action stick.
