Workplace Observations identified telecommuting spaces poorly fit with furnishings, lighting, noise reduction, and technology to achieve hired role expectations. Underutilized virtual software, lack of peer of collaboration identified as two contributors to stress symptoms.
Observation of Individual identified time management barriers, physical and expressed stress symptoms during and following peer communication, virtual intrusion and visual preoccupation of personal life commitments.
Following a verbal, physical, and environmental assessment within the workplace and telecommuting space the individual was identified to suffer from perceptual learning deficit.
This is extracting meaningful information from the environment to guide actions adaptively (E.J. Gibson and Pick, 2000). Most of the major health problems plaguing the U.S. have significant environmental causes. (Wells, Evans and Yang, 2010) Restorative environments have been shown to lower blood-pressure and cardiac inter-beat interval. (L. Jones and Manighetti)
Facilitated identification of product, environmental and virtual health resources that may support telecommuting achievements. Modified existing organization products to tote, store, and prioritize tasks. Assisted technology and 2 smartphone apps organized and managed role duties with 100% effectiveness in meeting deadlines. Individual reported at six month assessment, “this is the kind of stress that is easily manageable”
Based on cognitive-ergonomic assessment findings individual was deficient of planning skills. Completion of Do It Lifestyle Wellbeing matured method to self-manage simple planning skills over 180 days. Observed self-initiated education, research, then implementation of one daily planning strategy weekly measured planning effectiveness improvement by 92%.
Design Consultant facilitated implementation of sensory-based strategies in all work space settings to improve body and mental awareness. Two workplace advocates co-selected to collaborate on solution-based sensory strategies, and accountability to six month goal of trialling current and new health strategies. This initiative crafted a new co-working system within the workplace to achieve wellbeing goals.
